In 1987, a young musician named Maurice Poto Doudongo, raised between Congo and Belgium, locked himself into a world of sound.
After absorbing records by Miriam Makeba, James Brown and Prince, he began recording music that didn’t belong to any scene, and didn’t need to.
Using borrowed 4-tracks, cardboard boxes as percussion, and pure instinct, Maurice created a record where Afro-pop futurism meets drum machine funk, synth poetry, and experimental R&B.
Originally meant to come out on Crammed Discs, the album was never completed — only one track surfaced, while the rest disappeared into the vaults.
Nearly 40 years later, this hidden gem has finally resurfaced.
Unearthed, restored from cassette roughs and demos, and released on vinyl for the first time ever, The Lost Album is not just a reissue — it’s a second breath.
Some music just takes time to find its moment.
